The drowsiest end of lo-fi — very soft, slow beats (often 60–75 BPM), muffled drums, warm low-passed keys and guitar, heavy vinyl crackle and long fades, made for winding down and drifting off. Everything is rounded and quiet: no bright transients, no busy fills, just gentle looping melodies that blur toward sleep. Textures are hazy and intimate, mixed low with rain or room ambience. The mood is cozy, tired and tender, sitting between chillhop and sleep music.

History

Sleepy beats emerged from the chillhop and study-beats boom as listeners sought slower, softer versions for bedtime, and Chillhop Records and Lofi Girl built dedicated 'sleepy' and 'night' playlists around producers like Jinsang, Kupla and Aso. It borrowed the felt-piano and rain textures of sleep ambient while keeping a faint beat, and grew into a large night-time streaming category. Bedroom producers across the 2010s and 2020s pushed it ever softer and slower, blurring the line with beat-free sleep music.
