Puerto Rican- and Dominican-rooted reggaetón with evangelical lyrics — dembow riddims, perreo-era production, and street-rap delivery aimed at pulling reggaetón's youth audience toward the church rather than away from the genre's sound. The scene mirrors secular reggaetón's formats beat for beat: collaborative compilation albums, posse remixes, and label crews, with testimony and scripture where the club narratives would be. Its veterans built the infrastructure — labels, festivals, awards presence — that the later trap cristiano wave inherited, and the two scenes share most of their leading names.

History

Seeded by Vico C's late-1990s conversion-era records, the scene proper coalesced in the early 2000s around Funky's circle, Redimi2, Manny Montes, Alex Zurdo, and Travy Joe, who traded features on collaborative albums like Los Vencedores (2004) and United Kingdom (2004) at the exact moment secular reggaetón exploded; it earned Latin Grammy nominations (Funky, 2003 and 2011) and Arpa Awards (Manny Montes' El Escenario, 2011) before its artists and audience flowed into the 2010s trap cristiano movement, which the encyclopedia documents separately as Christian Latin Trap.
