History
Van Morrison's sacred turn on Avalon Sunset (1989) and Hymns to the Silence (1991) proved a mainstream audience for Celtic-flavored devotion, and a dedicated scene followed: Iona formed around Celtic Christian heritage and set "Be Thou My Vision" in Irish as "Bí-Se i Mo Shúil" on Journey into the Morn (1996); Yorkshire's Eden's Bridge issued the Celtic Worship and Celtic Praise series on StraightWay (1997 onward); Moya Brennan's Perfect Time (1998, Word) and Grammy-nominated Whisper to the Wild Water brought Clannad's sound into Christian music; Robin Mark's Revival in Belfast (1999, Integrity/Hosanna!) sent "Days of Elijah" into worldwide congregational use; Keith & Kristyn Getty folded Irish session playing into modern hymnody, and Integrity's 2021 signing of the bagpipe-and-whistle band Celtic Worship carries the tradition forward.
